The Amalfi Coast, Sorrento and Capri
The Amalfi Coast, Sorrento, and Capri are iconic destinations renowned for their picturesque beauty. There are myriad small towns that perch precariously between the mountains and an azure blue sea that glistens and sparkles under the Italian summer sun. These areas boast terraced cliffs, winding roads, citrus groves full of lemons, and vibrant-colored houses bedecked with hot pink bougainvillea. The various towns in this region offer a variety of fabulous wedding venues, from panoramic terraces overlooking the sea to historic villas and some of the finest hotels that southern Italy has to offer. Add to this the region's incredible food: dishes created from the most delicious, locally-sourced and seasonal foods of the area, all paired with excellent wines, and you've got yourself an unforgettable wedding day!
Let's not forget the weather too. In spring, summer and autumn this region is blessed with warm sunshine and an abundance of clear blue skies. The water is warm for swimming and you and your guests will have the pleasure of long, languorous days that give way to sultry evenings and spectacular sunsets.
So, let's find out a little bit more about the treasures of Italy's Costiera.
Ravello
Ravello, is a small town, famed for its spectacular views which, quite simply, cannot be beaten. When it comes to selecting breathtaking backdrops for your wedding photos, your wedding photographer will be spoilt for choice as Ravello boasts unbelievable vistas at almost every turn. If you've got your heart set on an exclusive hotel or villa as the site of your nuptials then Ravello is the place for you. Some of the most popular to choose from are the Hotel Belmond Caruso, Villa Cimbrone, and Villa Eva
Positano
For many people, Positano is the jewel in the crown of the Amalfi Coast. Picture this: pastel-coloured villas ascending the cliffside that rises up from the Mediterranean Sea. The beautiful and colourful dome of Santa Maria Assunta can be seen, set against an inviting beach, replete with relaxing loungers and iconic beach umbrellas that scream Italian glamour. Positano is a vibrant place to use as your base, with many wedding venue options such as Rada restaurant or Hotel Eden Roc. You'll be spoilt for choice with so many wonderful bars and restaurants to enjoy during your time in this chic and much celebrated town.
Amalfi
Amalfi itself is a picturesque fishing village that offers many options for both civil weddings or Catholic ceremonies. There are a great many buildings, statues and museums which attest to the historical significance of Amalfi not to mention beautiful winding streets and plenty of cafes and restaurants in which you can take a break from climbing up and down the town's may steps! Amalfi is situated in an ideal location for enjoying everything that that the Amalfi Coast has to offer since it sits between Positano, Praiano and Ravello.
Praiano
Praiano is a stunning seaside resort which used to be a fishing village. It's location between Amalfi and Positano makes it an ideal spot to use as a base, it has the advantage of being a little quieter than the better known towns but certainly no less beautiful. Villa Ca Pa and Casa Angelina are wonderful wedding venues which are well worth exploring as possible venues for your Amalfi Coast wedding.
Capri
Capri island features many exclusive hotels and boutique accommodation options. As it is an island you will need to take a boat from the mainland (usually Naples but it's possible to get there from other places on the Sorrentine peninsula too). Of course, this affords you the opportunity to enjoy many breathtaking views of the Amalfi Coast from the water. Choose a venue in Capri town to take advantage of the town's lively atmosphere, or choose Anacapri on the other side of the island if you're looking for a wedding location that combines relaxed vibes with a glamorous and secluded setting. Capriwedding.com has lots of ideas for you.
Sorrento
On the other side of the Sorrentine peninsular you will find Sorrento which sits high above the Bay of Naples with views across towards Mount Vesuvius. Sorrento is well known for its lemon scent and it boats a number of beautiful venues for your wedding. I've had the good fortune to create custom invitations for both the Chiostro di San Francesco and the Hotel Bellevue Syrene which are both spectacular venues in this town.
I hope that this little introduction to the Amalfi Coast has whetted your appetite for your Italian destination wedding and given you some food for thought when it comes to deciding which location and venue to choose for your wedding celebration.
